New Zealand poets have found themselves in the spotlight as part of TVOne’s Artsville series, which has regularly featured performances from some of our leading word magicians.

Third Party Productions was commissioned by the channel to match up poets, poems and directors for the series which was scattered through the weekly arts programme.

“They’re a little like a cross between music clips and short films,” says producer Colin Hogg.

Featured poets include Brian Turner and David Eggleton, from Otago, Wellington’s Jenny Bornholdt and and Gregory O’Brien and Aucklanders Cherie Barford, John Pule and Karlo Mila.

And, adding melody to the mix, is a clip featuring an original song by comtemporary jazz singer/songwriter Caitlin Smith and her band.

Season 3

Third Party Productions’ third series of poetry performance pieces features poems by Michelle Leggott, Anna Livesey, Tusiata Avia, Martyn Sanderson, Stephanie de Montalk and the late Janet Frame.
